The Black Cultural Archives (BCA) is a national institution dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating the histories of diverse people of African and Caribbean descent in Britain. Using its unique collection, it promotes the teaching, learning and understanding of the African peoples‟ contribution, which enables the public to learn and connect with hidden histories, creating an experience to uplift and inspire. This is achieved through our exhibitions, public programmes and events. Its growing collection of original archives constitutes a permanent record of the richness of the Black experience in Britain and is accessible to all.
The Black Cultural Archives is a welcoming space for everyone to learn, explore and become inspired by Black British heritage and history.
We worked with Black Cultural Archives (BCA) to help then finalise a capital appeal to convert two derelict Georgian buildings in Windrush Square, Brixham, London, UK into a magnificent Black Cultural Centre which opened in July 2014.
BCA had obtained extensive funding pledges from Lambeth Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund plus a large Biffa Award, but required more match funding and assistance in developing their programme of revenue funding.
We worked with BCA to ensure they obtained both additional grants and were able to provide the right information to actually secure the pledges they had received. This was a long term project over many months and each element of the project financing steadily came into place. We also helped BCA with the search, selection and interview process to appoint their first fundraiser.
