How I Got a Job Through the Fundraising Convention

Today’s guest blog comes from, Harry Gardner, Corporate Account Executive at Meningitis Now, who was, once again, a volunteer at this year’s Fundraising Convention

Where to start? Every year the Fundraising Convention is one of the key highlights in the fundraising calendar.  I absolutely love it and always feel in my element when attending.  Whether you’re learning from the fundraising gurus of this world, hearing inspirational and motivational speakers or immersing yourself in the fantastic networking opportunities, there really is something for everyone.  Having been a volunteer at the Convention for four years now, I can personally vouch for the networking opportunities and actually owe the Convention a lot of thanks as it is the reason I am now in the job that I am.

I was busy scanning delegates into the expo (for people that don’t know, this is where exhibitors can have a stand and people can refuel with that all important cup of coffee.)  I started talking to the other volunteer who was also scanning volunteers in the expo and, to cut a long story short, a few months later she was my manager.

I just want to finish with this little gem, which for me really does signify what the Convention is all about.  I was chatting to a good friend whom I met at the Convention a few years ago, she told me how up until recently she had lost all motivation with her job, was feeling really flat and disheartened and really didn’t know if fundraising was for her anymore.  She told me that the Convention has restored her faith and her passion in the sector and is again a very proud fundraiser…
