Snapper the Venus Flytrap plant, Kevin the Carrot and a raccoon are all vying to be the cutest Christmas character in this year's retail Christmas ads. But do you know which charities will be benefitting?

Retail giant John Lewis, famed for its Christmas ads does it again this year with an adorable story about embracing new Christmas traditions, even if they're a little different. The ad features a brand new character, Snapper the Venus Flytrap, the perfect Christmas tree, with operatic legend, Andrea Bocelli voicing the soundtrack song, Festa. And it's the advert's song that is raising the money for John Lewis' charity partner this year. For every download of the song, money will be donated to Building Happier Futures Programme: Action for Children, Home-Start UK, and Who Cares? Scotland.

This year, Aldi's Christmas advert is a charming take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The advert sees Kevin and friends whisking shoppers back to the 1800s, following the story of Christmas hating Ebanana Scrooge, who is reminded of the joys of Christmas by good guy, Kevin the Carrot. The advert also stars none other than England footballer, Marcus Rashford MBE, who provides the voice for character Marcus Radishford. The characters are availabe to purchase instore as plush cuddly toys. Aldi has also announced that a donation of £15,000 will be made to charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust, from the sales of selected Kevin the Carrot products. The supermarket has also committed to donating £10,000 generated from the sale of Marcus Radishford toys to charity Magic Breakfast, which provides healthy school breakfasts to over 200,000 children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the UK.

Alongside its Christmas advert, supermarket, Lidl announced the return of its Toy Bank, a nationwide donation drive that last year saw over 80,000 toys donated to children who may not have otherwise received a gift. The announcement coincided with the retailer’s heart-warming Christmas ad about an adorable raccoon who goes above and beyond to make one little boy’s day extra special. As part of the Christmas campaign, Lidl will also be selling plush raccoon and monkey cuddly toys from the advert in store, with all proceeds going to its charity partner, Neighbourly.
